At the start of the 2024/2025 season, we proudly unveiled the Roxyfet Sports Lounge at Sedgefield Racecourse – a modern and vibrant space dedicated to celebrating the incredible legacy of Roxyfet, one of the track’s most beloved legends.
This stylish new lounge offers a wide range of beverages and light snacks, making it the perfect spot for fans to relax and enjoy the races. But it’s not just a place to unwind – the lounge showcases the memorable moments of Roxyfet’s career, including iconic memories from other sporting legends.
A Fitting Tribute to a local racing Icon, Roxyfet a true Sedgefield legend, completed his final race at the age of 13 on March 14th, 2023, finishing fourth due to the challenges of his aging legs. However, his legacy will forever remain strong. With 42 appearances at the track, 9 wins, 10 second-place finishes, and 2 third-place finishes, Roxyfet’s impressive record has cemented his status as a true racing icon at Sedgefield Racecourse. Trained locally by Micky Hammond, his contributions to the sport have made him a hero to many.
The Roxyfet Sports Lounge is a fitting tribute to this incredible horse, where racing fans can not only celebrate his achievements but also relive some of his most unforgettable moments at Sedgefield.
The John Wade Pavilion – A Tribute to a Racing Legend
In honour of the lasting impact that John Wade had on the world of horse racing, we are proud to announce the renaming of the Main Bar at Sedgefield Racecourse to the John Wade Pavilion. This tribute celebrates his exceptional legacy and the immeasurable contributions he made to our racing community.
John Wade’s achievements are nothing short of extraordinary. With over 80 wins and over 800 runners at his local track, his dedication to the sport left an indelible mark on racing. His standout victories, including two triumphs in the prestigious Durham National, have ensured his place among the greats of the racing world. His passion for the sport, combined with his unwavering commitment, made him a beloved figure at the racecourse.
The John Wade Pavilion is a fitting testament to his life’s work, ensuring that his legacy will continue to be felt for generations to come. As a racecourse, we are proud to honor him, and we are certain that his memory will live on through the hearts of all who loved him and the sport he cherished.
